BREAKING UPDATE: Attacker Arrested in German Stabbing Attack
- A 26 year old man has handed himself in to police and has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Germany’s Bild newspaper reports that the attacker handed himself in while wearing dirty, bloodstained clothing. Media report that the male is a Syrian national who arrived in Germany in December 2022

- A stabbing attack in the German city of Solingen has left three people dead and four people “very seriously injured” and another four people with less significant injuries
- The identity of the attacker is unknown and they remain at large
- Police say that there is no known motive but they are unable to rule out terrorism at this time
- The attack came during a celebration of the founding of the city 650 years ago. There was no specific threat made against the celebration and no large-scale police presence in place
- Those killed are a man aged 67, another man aged 56 and a woman aged 56
- During the attack, police say that the suspect attacked people at random, targeting peoples throats and necks
- German police have arrested a 15 year old boy who they say knew about the attack ahead of time and failed to report it to police. He was arrested after being overheard discussing the attack with another person
