PM Carney calls Federal Election for April 28th

Canadian PM Mark Carney announced today that the 45th Canadian Federal Election will take place on April 28th 2025. While other parties exist, the election will largely be a two-horse race between the Liberal Party under Mark Carney or the Conservatives under Pierre Polievre.

For those who haven’t been keeping track, this election is just the next hurdle in a very busy year of politics in Canada. In the past few months we’ve already seen:

  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resign while somehow also uniting every Canadian premier (except Danielle Smith)
  • President Donald Trump start a trade war with Canada, Mexico and pretty much anyone else he doesn’t like
  • Prime Minister Mark Carney win the Liberal Party leadership contest by an absolute landslide
  • Conservative Leader Pierre Polievre somehow lose a staggering 25 point lead in the polls
